On Sept. 9, Horizon Foundation President and CEO Nikki Highsmith Vernick spoke at a White House event, the third in its “Making Health Care Better” series, focusing on cardiovascular health. The event featured panel discussions about progress made in reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke, the remaining challenges and policy responses.
The event kicked off with remarks by Dr. Tom Frieden, Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and also featured a video message from First Lady Michelle Obama.
Ms. Vernick spoke on a panel about improving cardiovascular health in communities alongside Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association, and Matt Myers, president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Her remarks featured the work and progress made by partners in promoting healthy lifestyles through Howard County Unsweetened and Sugar Free Kids Maryland.
