Like so many others in our community, the Horizon Foundation is devastated by the destruction caused by floods in Ellicott City. We are particularly concerned for residents, workers and businesses facing the trauma of great losses and uncertain futures. As Howard County’s health foundation, we care deeply about the well-being of those affected by the flood.
To aid in recovery efforts and ensure the availability of mental health services, the Foundation is making two grants. The Foundation is providing $10,000 to the Ellicott City Partnership to support the health and well-being of those in the flood-affected area, including both businesses and residents. The Foundation also is providing a total of $20,000 to the Red Cross of the Greater Chesapeake Region, an experienced provider of disaster support which already has used a grant of $12,500 to provide disaster relief including immediate shelter, nursing staff, welcome center services including help with food, clothing, showers and comfort kits. With an additional $7,500 in grant funding, the Red Cross will be able to expand mental health counseling services to those who need it.
We are grateful for the opportunity to support the mental health and well-being of our community members in this time of need, and we are proud to see so many step up to help each other and show the resilience of our community.
