800 Attend Speak(easy) Howard Events at Columbia Festival of the Arts

Thank you to all who joined the Horizon Foundation’s Speak(easy) Howard campaign for our special series of events with Columbia Festival of the Arts!

Eight hundred people attended four events – hearing moving personal stories with the Stoop Storytelling Series, participating in a film screening and discussion about doctors helping families navigate the end of life, watching legendary sketch comedy group The Second City and seeing dramatic readings by Hollywood actors at a live show of Selected Shorts.

“Through the arts, we’re able to see how we all have values about life and the legacy we want to leave,” said Horizon Foundation Program Director Tiffany Callender. “Our hope is that Speak(easy) Howard and these events help you think about your own values and how to ensure those are honored until the end.”

At each event, attendees learned about the free advance care planning resources available through Speak(easy) Howard to easily name a health care agent online and start a conversation with loved ones about personal values and health care wishes.

“For 32 years, the Columbia Festival of the Arts has brought world-class performances and inspired the local community to celebrate and engage with the arts,” said Columbia Festival of the Arts Board Chair Suzi Padgett. “We are honored to partner with the Horizon Foundation and be part of the Speak(easy) Howard movement on an important issue that affects all of us in the community.”

Speak(easy) Howard is a community initiative of the Horizon Foundation that helps residents think through their preferences for care, talk about them with loved ones, and name a health care agent, the person you choose to make medical decisions if you can’t.
