This month, we also welcomed our newest board member, Sekou “Koe” Murphy. A Howard County resident, he currently serves as the chief financial officer for CCI Health & Wellness, a federally qualified health center. Welcome, Sekou!

2022 Community Opportunity Grants coming soon!
We are are excited to open applications for our 2022 community opportunity grants on February 1st! These one-time grants for up to $20,000 help nonprofits carry out their mission more effectively and build capacity in areas such as enhancing service delivery, building advocacy efforts, board development and strategic planning and more.

Horizon Foundation awarded over $1.85 million in grants in 2021
We are proud to announce that the Foundation awarded over $1.852 million in grants to 50 community organizations as part of its mission to improve health and wellness for people who live or work in Howard County, Md. The grants focus on advancing the Foundation’s three strategic priorities – promoting healthy kids and families, encouraging healthy aging and ensuring a more equitable community – including emphasizing mental health for both children and adults. We are proud to work together with all of our grantees to make Howard County a healthier and more equitable place for everyone.

New poll finds 69% of Howard County likely voters support vaccine requirement for public schools
In case you missed it, the Foundation recently commissioned a poll of likely voters in Howard County that found 69% supported the idea of a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for public school students. This strong show of support comes as schools are confronting the surge in COVID-19 cases brought on by the Omicron variant, with many returning to virtual instruction. While vaccination rates among children are increasing, there is still a long way to go.
