Conversations about mental health in our community have never been more important. From expanding local and regional crisis services to ensuring ALL Howard County students can access mental health supports in their schools, we’ve certainly come a long way. But much work remains.
Join us (in person!) at the Columbia Lakefront on April 27th for How Far We’ve Come: Elevating Mental Health Together. We will honor the work of the Mental Health Matters Coalition, other community partners and our legislative champions to advance mental health causes in Howard County and beyond. Light fare will be provided. Register now!
Persia Nicole, award-winning radio/TV personality and community activist, will emcee the event. Along with Coach Locksley, other special guest speakers include:
- Dr. Yvette Rooks, Head Team Physician and Assistant Director at the University Health Center, University of Maryland
- Dr. Calvin Ball, Howard County Executive
- Dr. Michael Martirano, Howard County Public Schools Superintendent
We all know that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought serious disruption to the lives of our students and their families – and recent data shows that indicators of anxiety and other mental health challenges are on the rise in our community. As we continue to navigate these uncertain times, we want to bring our community together to show support for one another, celebrate how far we’ve come and take action for the future.
Each of your voices and the voices of our students, families and community members continues to make a difference. Let’s continue the work of elevating the importance of mental health – together.
We hope you can join us!
