2013 Grants

African American Community Roundtable of Howard County: $150,000 to implement a culturally relevant health insurance outreach campaign targeting the county’s African American community.

American Institute of Wine and Food: $65,950 to expand and enhance the Days of Taste® program to incorporate healthy beverages in the curriculum and reach more fourth graders.

The Arc of Howard County: $4,000 to support creating a new strategic plan, evaluating progress on its 2020 vision, and setting goals to guide leadership for three years.

Association of Community Services: $19,974 to expand membership and add new member support services and programs; $8,000 to facilitate a feasibility study by the Nonprofit Center Network on developing a nonprofit center in the county; $5,000 for restructuring the Education Development Program to better support nonprofits’ long-term sustainability.

Camp Attaway Inc.: $3,500 to support board development to strengthen strategic organizational infrastructure and the camp’s growth to meet more mental health needs of Howard families.

Evergreen Health Cooperative: $75,000 to conduct outreach to Howard County residents participating in open enrollment on the Maryland Health Connection insurance marketplace.

Foreign-born Informational and Referral Network (FIRN) Inc.: $92,000 to partner with multiple county agencies to create a Promotores de Salud program – a health care, wellness, and prevention services continuum directed towards the Latino community.

First Tee of Howard County: $99,000 to expand its partnership with the Howard County Public School System to offer programming for all 41 elementary schools.

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center: $9,999 to support free medical services and prescriptions for homeless individuals through the Route 1 Day Resource Center.

Healthy Howard Inc.: $75,000 to support the Healthy Childcare program, which provided guidance to childcare givers on preventing childhood obesity and diabetes in early childhood; $60,000 in conjunction with Baltimore Healthy Start to facilitate prenatal care for undocumented immigrants.

HopeWorks of Howard County: $3,000 to improve capacity to measure impact through Efforts-To-Outcomes software.

Howard County Department of Citizen Services: $5,000 to deliver two-day training on a comprehensive community response to poverty starting with direct service providers.

Humanim: $70,300 to provide medical care to people with severe mental health illnesses in Howard County, ultimately reducing preventable hospitalizations and improving overall quality of life.

The Mario Do Right Foundation: $10,000 to partner with Howard County Unsweetened’s “Your Voice, Your Choice” Documentary Competition and expand awareness about healthier choices for youth.

Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative Education Fund, Inc.: $35,000 to operate a regional public education campaign in Howard County on health care through a coalition of health care consumers.

Maryland Dental Action Coalition: $7,000 to survey licensed Maryland dentists and dental hygienists about knowledge, attitudes and practices related to patient obesity and sugary drink consumption.

Maryland Hunger Solutions: $40,000 to create and implement a Road Map for the Howard County Public Schools System and increase children enrolled in child nutrition programs.

MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society: $75,000 supported advocacy efforts for policy changes to help prevent childhood obesity.

NAMI Howard County: $2,500 supported strategic planning and strengthened advocacy on mental health issues in Howard County.

People Acting Together in Howard County: $150,000 built a diverse coalition focused on providing children healthier drink options.
