Continuing to Work Together

We know there are a lot of challenges and changing environments that are impacting philanthropic organizations and the nonprofits who work with us to serve our communities. We are also navigating new dynamics in the world of public health. We will continue to work with our grantees and partners to understand the needs of the community on the ground and how best we can meet them to ensure our residents can live healthy and abundant lives.

Update from Annapolis

Our team and coalition partners have been hard at work this legislative session advocating for policy change on important public health issues – and defending our hard won progress from looming state and federal budget cuts. Crossover Day, the deadline for legislation to be approved in at least one chamber, passed last week and we are thrilled that many bills we are supporting – from protecting access to telehealth services to encouraging schools to purchase local produce to expanding prescription drug affordability and more – are progressing through the legislative process! Unfortunately, two of our priorities, Good Cause Evictions and the For Our Kids Act, will not be moving forward this session. We will continue to work with our partners to help get these important pieces of legislation over the line in future years.

We still need your help – and you can still get involved! Legislators are continuing to negotiate the details of next year’s fiscal budget. Tell your representatives to protect funding in the budget for the 988 Crisis Lifeline and school-based mental health services. Students’ mental health challenges are on the rise and we must ensure our kids can access the support they need so they can learn and be well. Act now!

Staff Shout-Outs!

Congratulations to our own Glenn Schneider for successfully defending his dissertation! For 14 years, Glenn has served as the Foundation’s Chief Program Officer, leading our strategic planning efforts, program planning and policy work. He is a longtime public health advocate and advocacy campaign strategist working closely with community coalitions, grantees and partners to make this community a better, healthier place. And now he can add one more very impressive accolade to his resume – DrPH! Last month, Glenn defended his dissertation focused how advocacy instruction could be improved in schools and programs of public health. Our staff was honored to watch his presentation alongside his family, friends and longtime colleagues – and even more honored that we get to work with him every day. Please join us in congratulating the new Dr. Schneider!

Congrats as well to our own Jennifer White Holland for being named one of The Daily Record‘s Top 100 Women in Maryland in 2025! We’re grateful to have Jennifer as our Policy & Community Engagement Director, where she uses her talents as a passionate advocate and community connector to help us advance our mission. She also serves as a Maryland State Delegate for Baltimore County. It’s great to see her talent and passion recognized. Congratulations, Jennifer!
