Policy change for public health
The Maryland General Assembly just wrapped up its annual legislative session, and it was a banner year for public health! From funding for mental health crisis services to expanding prenatal care to protecting local health officers to making advance care planning more accessible, policy changes are coming that will make our communities healthier and more equitable. At the same time, Howard County’s proposed FY 2023 budget includes robust funding for students’ mental health, maternity care and complete streets. The Foundation (and hopefully you!) will continue to advocate for full funding for these initiatives.

What’s working in advance care planning?
Since creating the Speak(easy) Howard initiative in 2016, we have learned a great deal about successful strategies organizations can use to encourage their communities to name health care agents. We have also learned that health care agent initiatives provide countless benefits for organizations.
