At the Horizon Foundation, our mission is to work side-by-side with our community—building power, advocating for policy change and dismantling the structural racism that has long contributed to health inequities. We are dedicated to creating a future where everyone in Howard County and greater Maryland enjoys the benefits of better health, opportunity and justice.
Over the past few weeks in light of recent Presidential Executive Orders, we have been asked by many in our community, including our grantees, if our commitment to our new vision and mission might dissipate given the changing environment. Our response is that we remain steadfast and strategic in our efforts. Despite the threats and incitement of fear, data still show us that communities of color experience worse health outcomes in Howard County and we promise to work to close the racial equity gap and improve health for all.
We recognize that the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) are not merely ideals but the very foundation of transformative change. We firmly believe that the diverse voices, experiences and perspectives within our community are our greatest strength, and it is through embracing this diversity that we can create more equitable systems and sustainable solutions that will improve health outcomes for everyone.

We are committed to learning together, growing together and building together a public health framework that not only addresses immediate health challenges but also dismantles the systemic barriers that perpetuate inequity.
