Meet our latest grantees
We are so excited to announce our first set of grantees under our new strategic plan. This past year, we undertook an extensive review of our grantmaking and evolved our processes to practice trust-centered philanthropy – a holistic approach to grantmaking that is rooted in shared values and true partnership with grantees, where grantees not only provide input but co-create programs and policy solutions that achieve our joint vision of social change.
This past year, we awarded $1.4 million in grants to 28 partners and community organizations. Learn more about them here and stay tuned to hear more about their work with us this year!
Welcome to our new trustees!
Please join us in welcoming our two new trustees, Louis Hutt and Scott Rose! We are so pleased to welcome our two newest Horizon Foundation board members. Throughout their careers, Louis and Scott have made valuable contributions to the health and mental health of their communities, using their time and expertise to promote equity and well-being. We look forward to working together to make Howard County free from systemic inequities, where all people live abundant and healthy lives.
We also want to thank our departing board member, Sharon Hoover, for her years of service to the Foundation and to Howard County. Her passion for youth mental health and her leadership on the Board, particularly in the development of our new strategic plan, was invaluable to our work.

An update from the Streets for All Coalition
Thank you to everyone who has supported ongoing efforts to implement complete streets in Howard County. As many of you know, the Horizon Foundation recently launched a new strategic plan that includes several new focus areas. Though the Foundation will continue to advocate for complete streets projects in our community, especially in historically underinvested areas, Bicycling Advocates of Howard County (Bike HoCo) will be the primary leader of these efforts moving forward.
To stay in the loop about complete streets in Howard County and to continue to get involved, subscribe to the Bike HoCo listserv and follow their Facebook page for updates.
First Thursday – February 6
Thank you to everyone who has been participating in our First Thursdays community conversations! Please join us on February 6 at 10 a.m. at the Horizon Foundation’s office for a guided conversation and connection with your fellow Howard County residents.
This month, we plan to discuss recent events surrounding the topic of immigration. If you have ideas about topics for future discussions, please share them so they can be added to our First Thursday agendas moving forward!
If you would like to join this discussion, please RSVP to our Policy & Community Engagement Director, Jennifer Holland, by Monday, February 3.
