Spotlight: Creating healthier choices with Alice Harris
As a dedicated Howard County educator for many years, Alice Harris has a passion for helping young people and their families. Working on health issues may not have been her focus from the start, but over time, as a school administrator, she began to notice how the young students and their families were being impacted by chronic diseases like diabetes – a disease with which Alice is all too familiar.

Policy victories in 2023
The Foundation, our grantees and our state and local partners have been hard at work advocating for policy change in Howard County and in Annapolis to improve public health and health equity. From record funding for complete streets, to expanding access to behavioral health services to funding for prenatal care, we are proud of the progress we’re seeing in our community. THANK YOU to all of our partners and community members who raised their voices in support of improving our health care system and health equity in Howard County and beyond.

A bittersweet Horizon update
We are sad to announce that after eight wonderful years at the Horizon Foundation, Tiffany Erbelding will be leaving in August. Tiffany has been a thoughtful strategist and a detailed practitioner, helping to lead our current strategic planning process co-designed with community. She led, designed and successfully executed our Speak(easy) Howard campaign which resulted in a demonstrable increase in residents naming a health care agent especially in Black, Asian and Hispanic households. She worked closely with community partners to roll out increased access to mental health services in community settings, including schools and pediatric practices. She even took several staff, local, and state partners on a trip to Arizona which led to the development of the Crises Now model in Maryland. Her impact on the Foundation and our community is undeniable. We will miss her introspection, her compassion and curiosity and her travel stories! If you have worked with Tiffany and would like to send her well wishes, she can be reached at terbelding@
Though Tiffany is irreplaceable, the Foundation is hiring for a Senior Program Officer position. If you are interested in joining our fabulous team, view the position description and apply today!
